Stamping with Copic Markers - Mother’s Day Card

Yes, stamping with copic markers is possible. And it’s a lot of fun. And at the price we pay for these babies, it’s important that they pull double duty!

On this Mother’s Day card, I stamped with distress ink and copic markers…and I love how it turned out. I’ll show you how I did it, step-by-step.

Step one for me is stamping the background. This way, if I mess up on the big stamp (or a repeated image) I won’t have ruined my card. I used Scattered Straw Distress Ink for this project.

Step two is to color the stamp with copic markers. I use the chisel tip…if for no other reason than to finally have a reason to use it! Actually, I use it because the colors may bleed a bit and I don’t want to ruin the brush tip (though you should clean it off on a piece of scratch paper if it picks up another color).

Step three is to mist the stamp with various ink. The markers have long since dried…so it needs to be remoistened (see notes below). I filled a mini mister with the blender solution.

Step four is to stamp the greeting and other elements. In this case, I stamped Happy Mother’s Day in Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

Last step is to distress edges and/or embellish as desired. The card at the top of this post has distressed edges (using a blending tool). The card below does not. Both cards have gems and ribbon (attached with Zots).

Stamping with Copic Markers – How It Works

Stamping with copic markers is a little different than coloring with water-based markers such as marvy or tombow. Copic markers are alcohol based and they dry very quickly. Once you finish coloring a stamp you’ll need to mist it with various ink (0 colorless blender solution) to moisten the ink. Then you can stamp away.

Since stamping with copic markers requires a mister, the stamped image may look more blurry…giving it a watercolor look. So I wouldn’t use this technique on an image that I want to have a crisp clean line

In the photo above, you can see several cards I made and wasn’t happy with. I didn’t mist the stamp evenly, so parts of the image are more ”water colored” than others.

I needed gift wrapping for the butterfly cards I showed you yesterday. Here are a couple different ways I packaged them up.

The first and easiest way to give these butterfly cards as gifts is in little card bags. I picked up the bags at Xpedx. I created the tag myself. To punch holes that deep on the tag/flap, I used a cropadile. These card bags hold three cards and three envelopes each.

Not sure the photo shows it, but I did stamp some flowers on the top tag/flap to give some added interest.

The gift box holds a set of 7 cards. Obviously the card itself was the inspiration for the design of the box. I created the box after I had stamped all 7 of the cards. After all, one needs to know all the dimensions of a stack of 7 cards & envelopes before making a box.

Butterflies with Copic Markers

When I saw that the Hero Arts butterflies came as digital files, I couldn’t resist! They look great colored tone on tone and with multiple colors. All of these cards are birthday cards, but would be great for spring, get well, or thinking of you.

Lest you think it a shame that the right side of the butterfly is cut off, don’t worry. I’ve used that on the inside of the cards!

Let’s take a closer look at each of these cards and a couple more that I couldn’t resist coloring. Some photos will make it easier to see the music score background I stamped behind each butterfly. I did distress the edges of the background papers, but that, too, is difficult to see.

I printed this large butterfly on Georgia Pacific paper on my toner based printer. This would not work on an inkjet.

I adore the rich hues of this butterfly.

One of the first butterflies I colored was this blue one. I searched Google images and found a photo of one that looked very similar to the one I’ve colored here.

Is there such a thing as a green butterfly? I don’t know but I think it’s cute!

I’ve seen more butterflies with orange…does one such as this exist in nature?

This was the second butterfly I colored. I love the coloring next to the veins!

Again, I don’t think this color butterfly exists, but after coloring so many others, I couldn’t resist creating a purple one.

Last but not least is the yellow butterfly. When I had finished coloring all the others, I realized that I wanted a yellow butterfly. So here it is.
